Youth Mighty-Mite Basketball
This is a co-ed league comprised of children in the 1st and 2nd grades.
Games will be played on Saturdays at the Burlington Y. Score will
not be kept. Rules will be adjusted to make it fun and exciting
for the kids while they are learning to play basketball as a team.
Each player will receive a t-shirt.

Private Cheerleading Lessons
Private and semi private lessons are
available. Skills developed are: Cheerleading jumps, conditioning,
proper arm technique and gymnastic tumbling skills. Sold in lots of six.
School Day Out CHEER CAMP! No school? No problem! The
Burlington Y will be holding a one day cheer camp during a scheduled
school in-service day. Participants will learn how to stunt,
cheer, chant, jump and arm technique in addition to basic tumbling and
pom routine. Cheerleaders will need to bring a sack lunch and
water bottle. The recommended attire is ponytail, shorts, tank
top and CLEAN tennis shoes. No sandals or jeans, please.

Y-Cheer
Calling all cheerleaders! Come take part in the Y Cheer coed
cheerleading program. Throughout this 5-week course, you will
learn cheerleading basics along with a fun pom routine, cheers, jumps
and some stunts. All participants will receive a t-shirt.

2011-2012 Coed Dance and Tumbling Program
Dance classes are weekly
with holiday breaks. Tuition is due at the first class of the month. At
the end of the nine month session, students may per- form in a dance
production. This is optional and any student wishing not to perform will
still benefit from classes
Class
Descriptions:
3 yr olds (30 minutes) - Combination of tap and
tumbling. Rhythmic exercises and basic tap technique and terminology are
instructed. Tumbling includes beginner skills and stretching and
strengthening exercises.
4-7 yr olds (45 minutes) - Combination of tap, ballet,
and tumbling. A progression system is used. Ballet barre and centre are
introduced.
8 and up (90 minutes)
- Combination of tap, ballet, jazz and tumbling.

Tap A graded tap system
is used. This level progresses students into more advanced
skills.

Ballet - Cechetti and
French systems are taught with an emphasis on preparation for
pointe work(Age 12).

Tumbling - Tumbling -
Skills taught from beginner to advanced levels.

Jazz - Age appropriate
music is used. Ballet technique is incorporated for roper
execution of movement. Classical jazz and hip hop styles are
instructed.

WATCH WEEK is held
the last week of each session. This is the only time parents/guardians
are allowed in the gymnastics area. This enhances students’ attention
spans and allows for optimum practice time.

REFUND REQUESTS must be
made 48 hours before the first class starts, unless requests are
accompanied by a written medical excuse. Refunds will not be granted
after the first day of class unless it is a medical excuse.
Gymnastics Department
Kara Jameson
has been coaching gymnastics at the Burlington Y since 2000 and has over 15
years experience working with cheerleaders throughout Iowa. Current
certifications include: AACCA Safety Certification (American Association of
Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators), USASF Credentialing (U.S. All Star
Federation) in All Star Cheerleading Levels 1-3, National Council of Spirit
Safety and Education in Cheer and Dance Coaching Principles and Ethics and
Coaching Cheer Fundamentals, YMCA of the USA Gymnastic Instructor, Gymnastic
Administrator, First Aid and CPR.
Tasha Pricket has been the Y's Team
and Pre-Team Coach for the past 16 years. She holds safety certification
through USA Gymnastics, is a USA Gymnastics Pro-Member, YMCA Gymnastic
Instructor and has both First Aid and CPR.
Gymnastic Class Descriptions
Tumble Buddies
Have fun with your toddler (18 mo - 3 yrs) in a parent-child class! This
class is designed for the very young gymnast who still requires a
guardian to accompany him or her out on the floor. Children will begin
learning motor coordination, balance and socialization skills. Parents/
Guardians will learn to spot their gymnast on various beginning skills
and will be able to play freely during a portion of the class. Must be
able to walk or run. 45 min.
Tumble Tot’s: This class
for 3 year olds introduces listening skills, body positioning, movement
skills and basic tumbling skills. 30 min.
Tumble Cubs: For students 4
years. Skills performed: Incline forward and straddle roll, L-hang on
bars, knee scale, V-sit on beam, and squat off vault. 30 min.
Tumble Bears: For students
5 years. Skills performed: start cartwheel, backbend, hang on uneven
bars, bunny hop on beam, and squat on vault. 30 min.
Rollers:
For students 6 years & above. Skills performed: cartwheel, front/backrolls,
start Releve’ walks on beam, mounts and dismounts on uneven bars, and tuck jump
off vault. 45 min.
Turners/Swingers: For
students who have passed Rollers. Skills performed: cartwheel, start
round-off, pivot turn and squat turn on beam, start back hip pullover on
uneven bars and vault prep. 45 min.
Tumblers/Springers: For
students who have passed Turners. Skills performed: start front
handspring and dive cartwheel, start forward roll on balance beam, start
cast, backhip circle, start front handspring on vault. 45 min.
Springers/Flyers: For
students who have passed Tumblers. Skills performed: start standing back
handspring, start cartwheel on beam, start front hip circle on uneven
bars, and start handspring on vault. 45 min.
Boys
Tumbling (ages 5 & up):
This class will focus strictly on floor elements and strength moves.
Some examples of skills performed include forward and backward rolls,
backbends, cartwheels and round-offs. 30
min.
Recreation
Pre-Team
This program is taught by our Competitive Coach and participants must be
evaluated first in order to attend. Girls need to have prior experience
in gymnastics through our classes on all apparatuses. Great class for
those who LOVE gymnastics and one hour just isn’t enough!!

us organize a birthday party for your child (ages 3 and up) and his/her
friends in the gymnastics area with a variety of fun games, activities

area, an Activity leader, one hour in the community room and a day pass
for each child.

Day Out Gymnastics Camp
Keep your
child busy when there’s no school in the all-day gymnastics camp. Gymnasts will

Bushidokankijitsu

Bushidokankijitsu is
an eclectic martial art offering a self-defense program with strikes,
joint locks, throws, grapping, multiple attackers, and weapons
training. Bushidokankijitsu teaches the use of internal energy
to focus a karateka's strength to grow both physically and mentally.

Paul Peterson has 26 years of
experience and has earned Black Belts in the following styles of
martial arts: 6th Degree Black Belt in Bushidokankijitsu, 4th Dan in
Hapkido, 3rd Degree in Karate, and 1st Dan in Tae Kwon Do.
Assistant instructor, Sensei Joel Hanger, has been training for 12
years and has a 3rd Degree Black
Belt. New students are always welcome and anyone may come
and watch a class. Both adult and youth classes available.
Your current belt and rank will be honored.
Learn outstanding self-defense skills, learn how to use the staff
(bo), Nunchka, Escrima, Cane and Sword.

The Burlington YMCA-YWCA Junior Wrestling Program is for boys and girls in

Need
a break? The Y offers FREE child care to parents at our Child Care
Center. The program is offered on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of
each month from Noon - 3 pm. Parents may bring their children
(ages 2 weeks - 10 years), to the Y and enjoy an afternoon to meet a
friend, go shopping or just relax! Registration is required in

Middle
School Cybex/Cardio Equipment Training - Grades 6-8
In
this training, middle schoolers will be trained on how to properly use
the Cybex and Cardio Equipment. Upon completion of training, middle
schoolers will be allowed to use the equipment with a parent present.
Anyone younger than 6th grade is not allowed in the Cybex/Free weight
rooms.
