School Day out Cheer Camp!
No School? No problem! The Burlington Y will be holding a one day cheer camp during a
scheduled school in-service day. Participants will learn how to stunt, cheer, chant, jump and
arm technique in addition to basic tumbling and pom routine. Cheerleaders will need to bring
a sack lunch and water bottles are permitted. The recommended attire is ponytail, shorts, t-
shirt (not too loose) and CLEAN tennis shoes. No sandals or jeans, please. Space is limited.

Y Squad Gymnastics
Try-out for the Y-Squad Performing Gymnastics Team! This group of gymnasts travel to various events in and around the Burlington area and perform different gymnastics routines. Open to all skill levels and ages and is co-ed. Tryouts will be held this fall in the Y's gymnastic's room. (leotard and hair pulled back, please no tights). Calling all cheerleaders! Come take part in the Y Cheer coed cheerleading program. Throughout this 6 week course, you will learn cheerleading basics along with a fun pom routine, cheers, jumps and some stunts. All participants will receive a t-shirt.

Coed Dance and Tumbling Program
Dance classes are weekly with holiday breaks that are listed in the students pamphlet, that will be given out the first lesson of attendanc. Tuition is due the 10th of the month. The students in attendance at the end of 9 months will be performing a dance production, along with learning the concept of theatrical staging. The final production is optional, however, any student wishing not to perform will still get the full benefit of the class. Openings still available.
Class Descriptions:
3 yr olds (30 minutes) - Combination of tap and tumbling. Rhythm is instructed through the use of feet tapping, listening and counting to children's most popular music. Tumbling instruction through use of all the body's muscles through tumbling skills and exercises.
4-7 yr olds (60 minutes) - Combination of tap, ballet and tumbling.
Tap - Motivating music is used to tap with the age level of the group considered. A progression system is used. The arms, head and rest of the body is incorporated to the beat of the music and counting music is instructed.
Ballet - With the age of the student considered, french terms are included and begin taught along with barre and center floor work. Technique and proper form are emphasized.
Tumbling - Warm ups first, then skills using the panel mats. Front and back rolls are taught up to aerial work, twists and full twists.
8 and up (90 minutes) - Combination of tap, ballet, jazz and tumbling.

Family Night is held halfway thru the session where parents are invited to participate and/or watch.
WATCH WEEK is held the last week of each session. This is the only time parents/guardians are allowed in the gymnastics area. This enhances students’ attention spans and allows for optimum practice time. * Substitute instructor may occasionally be used during session.
REFUND REQUESTS must be made 48 hours before the first class starts, unless requests are accompanied by a written medical excuse. Refunds will not be granted after the first day of class unless it is a medical excuse.

Gymnastics Department
Kara Jameson has been coaching gymnastics at the Burlington Y since fall of 2000 and has over 14 years experience working with cheerleaders throughout Iowa and 7 years coaching gymnastics. Currently, she holds certification from the National Council of Spirit Safety and Education in Cheer and Dance Coaching Principles and Ethics as well as Coaching Cheer Fundamentals, YMCA of the USA Gymnastic Instructor, Gymnastics Administrator, First Aid and CPR.
Tasha Pricket has been the Y's Team and Pre-Team Coach for the past 14 years. She holds safety certification through USA Gymnastics, is a USA Gymnastics Pro-Member, YMCA Gymnastic Instructor and has both First Aid and CPR.
Gymnastic Class Descriptions
Tumble Tot’s: This class for 3 year olds introduces listening skills, body positioning, movement skills and basic tumbling skills. Some examples: Students will begin the forward roll, walk forward and backward on the beam, swing on the bars, and jump off the vault.
Tumble Cubs: For students 4-5 years. Examples of skills performed: Incline forward and straddle roll, L-hang on bars, knee scale, V-sit on beam, and squat off vault.
Tumble Bears: For students 4-5 years & who have passed Mini Gym. Examples of skills performed: start cartwheel, backbend, hang on uneven bars, bunny hop on beam, and squat on vault.
Rollers: For students 6 years & above. Examples of skills performed: cartwheel, front/backrolls, tart, start backward shoulder roll on beam, hang by knees on uneven bars, and tuck jump off vault.
Turners/Swingers: For students who have passed Rollers. Examples of skills performed: Basic round-off and handstand forward roll, 3/4 handstand and various dismounts on beam, squat on and vault hurdles, support cast and dismounts on uneven bars.
Tumblers/Kippers: For students who have passed Turners/Swingers. Examples of skills performed: handstand bridge, backbend kickover, 3/4 handstand and cartwheel on beam, jump to handstands on vault, swings on high bar and back hip circles on low bar.
Springers/Flyers: For students who have passed Tumblers/Kippers. Examples of skills performed: front limber, handstand pirouette and round-off rebounds, cartwheel dismount, turns and various jumps on beam beginning front handspring vault, forward stride circle and single-leg-squat-thru on uneven bars.
Flippers: For students who have passed Springers/Flyers. Start round-off back handspring, cartwheel, dismount on balance beam, straddle glide kip on uneven bars, and handspring on vault.
Preschool Boys: For students 3-5 years of age. Apparatuses included in this class are: vault, floor, rings, pommel horse and high bar.
Boys: This class is for students 6 & up and is an introduction to men’s gymnastic events (vault, rings, floor, pommel horse, and high bar). Example of skills performed: forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, swing turns on the high bar as well as creating a comfort level on all events.
Gymnastic Team and Pre-Team
Does yoour child LOVE gymnastics and have experience in the program? We offer both a competitive and recreational gymnastics program for all levels and ages, beginning with a forward and backward roll to round-off back handspring, back-tucks. Contact Kara for additional information.
Kiddie Kamp
Pre-school students will be kept busy with obstacle courses, hula hoops, parachutes, learning the fundamentals of gymnastics as well as all apparatuses. Gymnasts will learn various skills on each apparatus, play games. Parents are not required to be in attendance.

Tumble Buddies
Have fun with your toddler in a parent-child class! This class is designed for the very young gymnast who still requires a guardian to accompany him or her out on the floor. Children will begin to learn motor coordination, balance and socialization skills. Parents/Guardians will learn to spot their gymnast on various beginning \skills and will be able to play freely during a portion of the class.

Tumble Team
This group of gymnasts meets on Monday nights from 6:30 - 7:30pm. Participants will learn various acrobatic skills and must have a basic knowledge of gymnastics. Thos interested must call Kara in advance. Monthly program and new gymnasts are welcom to join at any time. Must be members of the Y

Gymnastics Birthday Parties
Let us organize a birthday party for your child (ages 3 and up) and his/her friends in the gymnastics area with a variety of fun games, activities and mini-gymnastics class. We provide two hours in the gymnastics area, An Activity leader, one hour in the community room and a day pass for each child.

School Day Out Gymnastics Camp

YMCA-YWCA Youth Spring Soccer Program
Boys and girls leagues divided into 4 age categories; Pee Wee (Coed ages 4 and 5), U9 (girls and boys ages 6 - 8), U12, (girls and boys ages 9-11), U15 (girls and boys ages 12 - 13, and 14). All games to be held on Saturdays at the Y on fields sized according to age divisions. Each player will receive a t-shirt.

Bushidokankijitsu
Bushidokankijitsu Martial Arts is very pleased to be a new part of the Burlington Area Community YMCA-YWCA's 2007-2008 program. Bushidokankijitsu is an eclectic martial art offering a self defense program with strikes, joint locks, throws, grappling, multiple attacker and weapons training. Learn how to use the Staff (bo), Nunchka, Escrima, Cane & Sword. Bushsidokankijitsu teaches the use of internal energy to focus a darateks's strength to grow both physically and mentally. Learn to focus your mind and take control.
We take our training very seriously but we know how to have a good time doing it. With Bushidokankijitsu's training, the art conforms to the student, not the student e art. Instructors work with you to learn the skills you need to advance. Martial arts training is a great way to keep fit, relieve stress and of course learn to protect yourself.
The Head instructor 5th Degree Black Belt Sensei, Paul Peterson has been in the martial arts 21 years. Assistant instructor and 3rd Degree Black Belt Sensei, Joel Hanger has been training for 12 years. New students are always welcome and anyone may come and watch a class. Both Adult and Youth classes are available.
All Karateka pledge to use their training and skills only for good. Physically they will protect others and themselves. Mentally they will offer assistance and guidance. Spiritually they strive to be their best in all facets of life. To serve their God, their amily, Country and association.

Parents Day Out
Need a break? The Y offers FREE child care to parents at our Child Care Center. The program is offered on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Saturdays of each month from Noon - 3 pm. Parents may bring their children (ages 2 weeks - 10 years), to the Y and enjoy an afternoon to meet a friend, go shopping or just relax! Registration is required in advance as space is limited.

Middle School Dance
Dances are for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and are held at the beginning and end of the
school year from 6-9 pm. There is a real "DJ" with age appropriate music an adult
chaperones at each dance. There is a dress code which is strictly enforced.
Dress code: Students will not be allowed to show skin around their mid-rift, no halter tops or low cut
shirts, sheer or see-through shirts, offensive language or graphics on clothing and any other clothing
deemed inappropriate by the Y staff.

School Day Out Challenge Course
What a better way to spend the day than to be 30 feet in the air, attempting to walk across a cable wire, cruising down a zip line or climbing up a 40-foot rock wall. Participants that choose to take on this challenge will participate in low and high ropes (depending on age), games and fun activities through the safety of a trained belayer. Plan to meet at Camp McBride.

Safari Club
The ideal 10 week program that meets the needs of working parents and their children Your child will love our camp staff and activities. Safari Club offers fun events and weekly trips and tours. Activities include free swim lessons, swimming outdoors, and trips to various water parks, bowling, roller skating, hiking, and much much more!
This program is for children entering 1st - 4th grades. As a Safari Club member you also have the option of attending Camp McBride for one session this summer. Enrollment is limited.

A 10 week program for youth entering 5th-7th grade. Your child will love our camp

Friday Night Youth Night
For students ages 8-15 can come to the Y and celebrate TGIF! Friday nights at the Y are fun-filled nights that include dodgeball, bingo, basketball, volleyball, racquetball, swimming, face painting, group games, arts and crafts, movies, pizza, popcorn and much more. All of these activities are supervised by Y staff. Activities begin at 6 pm and last until 9 pm. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Must be 8 years old to swim.

Cybex/Free-Weight Room Instruction and Middle School Cybex Training
Are you wanting to start a Cybex/Free weight routine? American College of Sports Medicine states we need at least two to three days of resistance training in addition to our cardio conditioning. Proper instruction and technique is critical to your success. For an appointment call 753-6734 ext. 0.
Middle School (6-8 grades) after proper instruction, can use the equipment with a parent present. Anyone younger than 6th grade is not allowed in the Cybex/Free weight rooms.
