John Slocum Honorary Scholarship

John Slocum

1915-2007

Your Legacy Will Always Be With Us!!!

Former YMCA Board of Directors President, Jim Nelson, established the Burlington YMCA Board of Directors Scholarship in 2001.  Scholarships are awarded to individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, citizenship and community, school and YMCA-YWCA involvement.  Beginning with the 2001 graduating class, two $500.00 scholarships have been awarded annually.

The 2006 YMCA-YWCA Board of Directors voted unanimously to rename this scholarship to honor our member John Slocum.  John was a Y member for 70 years, and his attitude towards life exemplified the Y Missions and Core Values.  He inspired others to be better people with his own positive outlook as a model to follow.

To be eligible for the John Slocum Honorary Y Scholarship, graduating seniors must be a member of the Burlington Area Community YMCA-YWCA at the time of application.  The Board of Directors will award the annual scholarships as long as funds are sufficient.  Funds for the scholarship awards are derived from personal contributions by Board members, staff and others.  If you would like to contribute to the John Slocum Honorary Y Scholarship please see or call Deb Mulch ext. 119 Gina Crabtree ext. 115 at  753-6734.
